暗号資産（仮想通貨）ニュースメディア「コインテレグラフ（Cointelegraph）」が買い手を探していると、米メディア「コインデスク（CoinDesk）」が10月7日（米東部時間）に報じた。コインテレグラフは10月8日、公式Xで同報道を否定した。

コインテレグラフは、コインデスクの発行責任者と編集幹部に向けた声明で「当社は売りに出されていない」と表明した。その上で、同記事は誤った情報に基づき、複数の事実誤認が含まれていると主張した。

また同社は、推測を事実として伝えることを批判した。コインデスクに対し、記事の文言だけを変更せず、誤りを明確に認めた上で、元の報道と同程度に目立つ形で訂正を掲載するよう求めた。

コインデスクの報道は、事情を知る関係者1人の証言に基づく。同関係者は、非公開の案件であるため匿名で取材に応じたという。売却希望額は明らかにされていない。

同記事では、コインテレグラフが2025年10月にグーグル（Google）から手動によるペナルティーを受け、サイトが検索結果に表示されなくなったと説明している。また、自然検索（広告を除く検索結果）からの流入が約80％減少したと伝えた。

さらにコインデスクは、アクセス解析サービス「シミラーウェブ（Similarweb）」のデータを引用した。それによると、コインテレグラフの月間訪問数は2024年12月の1,200万件超から、今年9月1日時点では70万件をやや上回る水準まで減少したという。

なお、月間訪問数と自然検索からの流入は異なる指標である。シミラーウェブの訪問数は外部サービスによる推計値となる。

コインデスクは記事の公開後、コインテレグラフの否定声明を本文に追記している。
